Undoubtedly one of the most prolific pulp horror authors of all time, with close to one hundred novels under his belt, British author Guy N Smith is perhaps the absolute godfather of the subgenre. With a career in published writing spanning from as far back as 1974, all of the way up to the present day, Smith has delivered more years of writing than most on the circuit. His mark upon the horror world is undeniable. His signature ‘Crabs’ series stamping his name on the popular creatures vs mankind premise almost as deeply, if not more so, than James Herbert did with his ‘Rats’ series.
Smith has used the pseudonym of Gavin Newman (amongst others) to explore different genres. He has written softcore porn, a number of children’s books, a variety of non-fiction books and continues to write for Countryman Weekly. His short stories have appeared in anthologies, magazines and periodicals throughout the span of his career. In short – Guy N Smith has had an incredibly busy and productive life.
Although the below list of novels, collections and short stories is reasonably exhaustive – it is not complete. I have kept with the overall essence of DLS Reviews, and as such, made the decision to only include the author’s work which would fall within the website’s still reasonably large catchment area – this being horror, sci-fi, thriller, sleaze etc. As such, the vast majority of Smith’s non-fiction work has been stripped out, as has his children’s novels. Nevertheless, what is left is an undeniably impressive wall of work – enough to whet the appetites of all good pulp horror fans…
